Employee Engagement as a Growth Strategy

During her TEDxAtlanta talk, Teresa Amabile draws from her book The Progress Principle to explain how companies can address and move beyond the "crisis of disengagement", which is occurring in the workplace. She discusses the importance of revitalizing creativity in work, and the need for employees to see that they are making progress on meaningful work. Employee engagement, Teresa emphasizes, can not be a distant and low propriety factor for companies. In fact, employee engagement directly drives the bottom line of organizations and overall productivity.

Teresa Amabile is a professor and director of research at Harvard Business School, and coauthor of The Progress Principle. As a psychologist, Teresa studies how everyday work life can influence people and their performance. Her research encompasses creativity, productivity, innovation, and inner work life — the confluence of emotions, perceptions, and motivation that people experience as they react to events at work.
